Pure Grown: A Revolution in Diamonds

"A Rose by any other name
             would smell just as Sweet."

                                                                                                                                                  -William Shakespeare

They're eco-friendly, sustainable, conflict-free, and the best part? They are real

Last year, we at LaRog Brothers Jewelers joined the world of Pure Grown, a highly reputable, high quality producer of lab-grown diamonds. After 100 years in the diamond business, it was a new adventure that we --as well as our customers-- have enjoyed and been captivated by.

The Pure Grown name carries with it the promise of conserving our environment while providing buyers with the same colors, clarities, and chemical makeup that an earth-mined diamond would have. Pure Grown diamonds are optically, physically, and chemically the same.

The term "lab grown" can quickly gain a quizzical eyebrow, and rightfully so as there are many companies that market their glittering creations as "man-made" diamonds. The truth about many of these creations, however, is that they are simulants or gems which look like diamonds, but ultimately are not. True diamonds are over 99% pure carbon and form under extreme heat and pressure.

With recent advancements in technology, we are now able to replicate the earth's natural processes and mimic the exact conditions needed to make gem quality diamonds. While earth-mined diamonds take millions of years to form, Pure Grown diamonds are ready to facet within just weeks.

The process starts with a tiny diamond crystal, or diamond seed, being placed inside a heated, pressurized chamber. In the weeks that follow, the diamond seed will grow into a cube-shaped crystal that will produce diamonds from 0.25 carat to 3.0 carats. They have no control over the clarities and colors these crystals make, so it's always exciting to see what qualities will occur after the process.

Each diamond comes with a certificate from a reputable gemological laboratory such as IGI, GCAL, or GIA, that way you know what you are buying is a diamond and not a look-alike.

Pure Grown also offers Fancy Color diamonds. In nature, an abundance of nitrogen can transform growing diamonds into rich, golden gems. By introducing nitrogen into a lab's growing chambers they, too, receive a range of fancy yellow hues.

Pink diamonds are one of the rarest to find in nature. They owe their coloring to alterations in their electron structure, thought to be caused by natural radiation. We once had a client spend twelve months searching for five pink diamonds that matched in size and color for an anniversary ring.

By carefully radiating lab diamonds they can receive a lovely range of pink hues, everything from pastel pink to vivid fuchsia.

Pure Grown diamonds are conflict-free with a guaranteed origin.

The Kimberley Process was born May of 2000 and implemented industry wide in 2003. With conflict diamonds being a worldwide concern, the Process has greatly reduced the number of them. Pure Grown guarantees their diamonds are conflict-free and origins are known.

More Affordable

Pure Grown diamonds are priced on average 30% less than your traditional mined diamonds. This Fall, we have 1.0 carat diamond specials starting at $2995.

Eco Friendly

Pure Grown is committed to being socially and ecologically responsible. In 2015, they won an Eco Excellence award from NCW Magazine. They also work to better our environment outside the diamond industry, like partnering with groups such as New Jersey BeeKeepers Association, who are working to increase the honeybee population.

Diamond Value

Some tomatoes grow in the garden and some grow in the greenhouse. Either way, you have a tomato! A diamond is a diamond regardless of how it was "harvested". While imitations like cubic zirconia don't hold their worth, both Pure Grown diamonds and earth mined diamonds are expected to remain valuable over time.

Preferred International Spa Day

It's a spa day... for your jewelry!

Jewelry stores all over the US have begun partnering with Preferred Jewelers International to bring jewelry buyers a new kind of warranty plan.

Buying fine jewelry now days can be challenging. Not only do you want your purchase to be the right choice for you or the person you're giving it to, but you want it to be a worthwhile investment that will stand up to the test of time. At many stores, this investment includes the extra cost of a warranty plan, which can range from $50 to $350, and has many exclusions as well as a clock attached (the plan will only last so many years).

Preferred has a different outlook on warranties. They have made it possible for us here at LaRog Brothers to now offer a jewelry plan that is not only life-long, but is available nationwide. Preferred has members in nearly every state, ensuring our customers that someone will always be there for them and their jewelry needs no matter where they move or travel to. Preferred has few exclusions when it comes to jewelry repairs. We cover ring sizing, re-tipping of prongs, new rhodium plating, and more. The best part is that there is no clock attached.

Yes, our Preferred Warranty is Free for life!

To celebrate this fantastic new partnership, we will be joining the Preferred Jewelers International Spa Weekend event. Come have your jewelry cleaned at either of our Oregon locations from September 22nd to the 24th and snap some pictures to enter into the nationwide contest as well as our own Spa Day giveaways! RSVP on Facebook and follow us on Instagram

We hope to see you there!
Until then, Keep Portland Brilliant.
